October monthly cover for bullet journal

With Summer fading into Autumn, nature explodes in all its glowing beauty. The range of colours in the forest foliage entices us to fully enjoy our time outdoors. I tried to capture all the wonderful colours of Autumn in this October monthly cover. Even though this is a digital drawing it brings me some of the crisp Autumn air and the sound of the crunchy leaves.

Is not this a true autumn day? Just the still melancholy that I love – that makes life and nature harmonise. The birds are consulting about their migrations, the trees are putting on the hectic or the pallid hues of decay, and begin to strew the ground, that one’s very footsteps may not disturb the repose of earth and air, while they give us a scent that is a perfect anodyne to the restless spirit. – GEORGE ELIOT, letter to Miss Lewis, Oct. 1, 1841

Autumn in nature

The main trees in my area are perennials, so they don’t change leaves every year and hence, we miss the seasonal display of colours. However, there are some places around here that are worth paying a visit to during the season.

Montseny

Montseny area is a massif located 60 km from Barcelona. It’s a Natural Park and has some of the highest peaks of the coastal mountain range. The variety of humidity and temperature conditions create a huge collection of habitats which contributes to its attractiveness for visitors.

It is possible to find pine trees, holm oaks, chestnut trees, beech trees and firs.

Fageda d’en Jordà

La Fageda d’en Jordà is a forest of beech trees that grows on top of the cooled lava of an old volcano, the Croscat. The whole area around the “Fageda” is dotted with ancient and extinguished volcanoes. It’s an easy walk for everyone as the terrain is predominantly flat.

Vineyards in Priorat

Visiting the Priorat during the grape picking season might be a charming trip. The landscape is beautiful and rough at the same time with vineyards spread all over the side of steep hills. If you have the opportunity to visit a winery and enjoy a wine tasting, the experience would be memorable.

La Cerdanya

This Catalan region is located in the Pyrenees area which makes it a must-visit in any season of the year. During Autumn, the landscape is especially beautiful with the explosion of colours that nature puts on display. In some places, like the Aransa and Llosa valleys the range of colours might go from purple to red, yellow and orange.

Autumn in my creative journey

Autumn seems to be a great source of inspiration in my drawing journey. I find the wide array of colours very attractive and motivating. Therefore I’ve created some drawings over the years with the autumnal colour palette. It’s encouraging to see the evolution of my skills and aesthetics. In fact, one of my first creations was a fall wreath similar to this one. I leave a link here in case you wanted to take a look at it: Hello Autumn, fall wreath.

Anyway, forget your busy life and go take a walk through an autumn forest to enjoy all its splashes of colour. You’ll feel calmer and recharged!
