I wanted to create a tropical theme for the August monthly cover as if we already were on holiday. With the hottest days of summer ahead the idea of being on an island with turquoise beaches and surrounded by tropical vegetation was quite enticing. The hibiscus flower captures the feeling of this month’s cover, that is, exuberance and joy. The colour palette exudes passion and excitement as well as boldness and serenity.
While hibiscus originates from Asia it has become a common plant in many gardens. It’s present even in the colder parts of the Nothern Hemisphere. And although it might resist quite low temperatures, no one can deny that its comfort zone is the tropical weather. Here, on the Mediterranean coast, I’ve had hibiscus in a container in my balcony some time ago. Unfortunately, it died due to a bug plague, albeit a close neighbour has one specimen which is at least two meters high.
The lusciousness of the flower has been my inspiration for this bright, tropical August monthly cover. It is available for download for free here.

I’m in love with the combination of dark green and several shades of red and I pretend to create a sticker set with more hibiscus blooms. Keep tuned for more tropical and exotic hibiscus designs!
Enjoy summer!
